Western Force set to sign Santiago Medrano

The Western Force are set to sign Santiago Medrano. The Western Australian side will be recruiting the Argentine prop for the 2021 Super Rugby season. Argentine journalist Jorge Ciccodicola has confirmed the move on Radio Rugby Champagne. An official announcement is expected over the coming days.

Medrano will join the Western Force from Los Jaguars. The move will see him remaining in Super Rugby, but playing in the Australian competition. He made his Super Rugby debut in 2018 and his test debut the same year.

He has 18 caps for Argentina, six of which were in the starting line-up. His most recent cap was against the USA at RWC 2019. That was also Argentina’s most recent test match. Medrano played in all four matches for his country in Japan 2019.

His move to Australia will come at the age of 24. He is the third Jaguares player to be recruited by the Western Force. Hooker Julián Montoya, and scrum-half Tomás Cubelli were recently confirmed for the 2021 season.

The trio all started in the 2019 Super Rugby Final. In the following video Medrano rates the Semi Final win over the Brumbies as his favorite match. He also names RWC 2019 teammate Juan Figallo as the best player in his position; the loss to France as his worst defeat; and Beauden Barrett as the best player in Super Rugby.
