San Diego confirm addition of Northland prop Luatangi Li

The San Diego Legion have confirmed the addition of loosehead prop Luatangi Li for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. Originally signed earlier this year with the intent of playing during the 2020 season, the COVID-19 cancellation saw the 29-year-old’s league debut delayed by a year.

Arriving relatively late in his career to the professional ranks, Li played for Auckland club East Coast Bays before making his senior provincial debut with North Harbour in 2018. He earned a Super Rugby deal with the Blues in 2019 and appeared in four games. Li switched to Northland this year and has scored three tries in seven games thus far during the Mitre 10 Cup.

San Diego have now signed three props for 2021 including returnees Nathan Sylvia, able to cover both sides, and tighthead Aaron Mitchell. Jamie Dever has departed for Old Glory. Loosehead specialist Faka’osi Pifeleti and Eagles tighthead Paul Mullen are still to be confirmed by the club.
