Rugby ATL signs GCU prop Lincoln Sii

Rugby ATL have confirmed the signing of Grand Canyon University prop Lincoln Sii for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 23-year-old tighthead joins as an undrafted free agent following a trial period that saw him playing in two recent intra-squad matches with 404 Rugby, ATL’s development side.

Sii was considered by some a surprise omission from the original MLR Collegiate Draft, with many rating him as as one of the top front row prospects in collegiate rugby. He was a four-year starter at GCU, known both for his strong set piece and powerful running game as evidenced by a first-half hat trick scored against San Diego State in March 2019.

ATL now have four props confirmed for the 2021 season. Eagles loosehead Chance Wenglewski and Tonga ‘A’ tighthead Duane Aholelei are returning on multi-year deals, with High School All-American Jonas Petrakopoulos arriving from Rugby United New York.

It’s the second UFA signing from GCU in the off-season. Team captain Cam Dodson signed for Austin shortly after the draft. He could find himself opposite Sii when the two sides collide though it will only happen once as ATL are in the Eastern Conference with Austin in the West.
