Solveyra and Fortuny extend SaberCats stay

Front row pair Nicolás Solveyra and Diego Fortuny have extended their contracts with the Houston SaberCats through the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The Argentine duo arrived at the club in late January for their first experience with American professional rugby.

Solveyra, 25, appeared in all five matches during the 2020 season. The loosehead prop started once, against Old Glory, and otherwise split time with USA u20 cap Valdemar Lee-Lo. Originally from Buenos Aires, Solveyra is an Argentina XV select and also played for the Jaguares XV in the Currie Cup.

Salta native Fortuny quickly established himself as the first choice hooker for Houston, starting four games and scoring a try as a replacement against Toronto. The 29-year-old played once for the Jaguares in the 2018 Super Rugby season and won his first test cap for Los Pumas against South Africa that year.

The SaberCats will also have Lee-Lo and tighthead prop Charlie Connolly returning in 2021. New additions include hooker Tiaan Erasmus from Austin, Georgian tighthead Nikoloz Khatiashvili, and versatile Canadian prop Nik Hildebrand.
