Ignacio Calles signs new contract with Pau

Ignacio Calles has signed a new contract with Pau. The extension will see him remain at the Top 14 club until 2023. The 24-year-old joined Pau in 2016 as a hooker, but has since converted to loose head prop.

Calles was an academy player for Pau. He signs for the seniors in 2019. His development has not gone unnoticed. Last week he was named on Argentina’s roster for the Rugby Championship. He was preferred to Leicester Tigers prop Facundo Gigena.

The uncapped Calles has previous representational experience. He played seven matches for Argentina at u20’s level in 2014-2015. He is the only foreign-based loose head prop on the roster. He joins Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro and Mayco Vivas from Los Jaguares, and Federico Wegrzyn from Los Ceibos.

Calles will join them in Australia on Monday, October 19. He and the other European-based players will fly  from Europe to join the camp. The others are Facundo Bosch (La Rochelle, FR), Enrique Pieretto (Glasgow Warriors, UK), Matías Alemanno (Gloucester, UK), Guido Petti (Bordeaux, FR), Marcos Kremer (Stade Français, FR), Pablo Matera (Stade Français, FR), Facundo Isa (Toulon, FR), Joaquín Díaz Bonilla (Leicester Tigers, UK), Nicolás Sánchez (Stade Français, FR), Santiago Cordero (Bordeaux, FR), Juan Imhoff (Racing 92, FR), and Ramiro Moyano (Toulon, FR).

Calles is a native of Tandil in Buenos Aires province. Tandil also produced Jaguares and Pumas N8 Rodrigo Bruni.
