Joe Pietersen re-signs for San Diego

San Diego Legion captain Joe Pietersen has officially re-signed for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 36-year-old South African declared his intent to continue with the team in April after the season was suspended, and has now committed for at least one more campaign.

Pietersen joined the Legion at the tail end of the inaugural 2018 season and has proved one of MLR’s best players since. He led the team to the 2019 MLR Shield Final and after a delayed arrival started in the wins over NOLA and RUNY earlier this year.

The 2021 season could see Pietersen returning to the No10 shirt following the departure of Luke Burton and the arrival of countryman Cecil Afrika, the latter primarily a fullback. Pietersen is equally skilled at either position while providing exceptional goal kicking accuracy.
