Free Jacks sign Saint Mary’s hooker Nick Hryekewicz

The New England Free Jacks have signed 24-year-old front rower Nick Hryekewicz for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. He follows fellow Saint Mary’s products Sean Yacoubian and Tom Brusati to the East Coast, with several other Gaels teammates scattered around other MLR teams.

Though he spent significant time at Saint Mary’s playing prop, the 5’9″ (1.76m) Hryekewicz joins New England primarily as a hooker. The Sacramento native was an All-Conference selection in 2020 and was part of the Rugby Americas North combine at Glendale in 2019.

Hryekewicz joins the returning Steven Hinshaw and new signing Pieter Jansen as hookers for the Free Jacks in 2021. This past season’s starter Sean McNulty has departed for a Western Conference side while veteran backup Diego Maquieira remains unconfirmed for next season.
