RUNY signs Quinn Ngawati from Toronto Wolfpack

Rugby United New York have announced the signing of top Canadian prospect Quinn Ngawati for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 21-year-old midfielder was under contract with the Toronto Wolfpack but the rugby league side’s financial woes will see him instead making a quick return to rugby union.

At 6’4″ (1.94m) Ngawati has the size and skills to succeed at the highest level. Before making the move back to the Wolfpack, his second stint with the club, he played for the Pacific Pride in the BC Premier League. In 2019 the Victoria native started all four matches for Canada at the World Rugby u20 Trophy, scoring two tries while switching between inside and outside center.

Ngawati was courted by both MLR sides and other league clubs before opting for New York. He had been on loan with the Rochdale Hornets in the UK before the pandemic wiped out the season. RUNY have now confirmed three centers for 2021 including Will Leonard and Troy Lockyear.
