JP Doyle to referee at World Tens Series

JP Doyle has accepted an invitation to referee at the World Tens Series slated to take place in Bermuda next month. The 41-year-old has been one of the leading referees in Europe for the last decade and took charge of the 2014 English Premiership Final. He was on the match official panel at Rugby World Cup 2015, refereeing the Pool C match between Argentina and Georgia.

Despite his impressive resume, Doyle was controversially let go from his full-time contract with the RFU in August due to budget cutbacks. He has since reportedly received interest from other professional competitions. One which may yet come calling is Major League Rugby, now under the guidance of fellow test referee Jonathan Kaplan.

Doyle will be joined by two senior officials already familiar with MLR. England’s Adam Leal took charge of six games during the 2018 campaign and made his Premiership debut in May 2019. Scott Green is MLR’s most experienced referee with 28 games in the middle including both Championship Finals to date.
