Charlie Hewitt has re-signed with Rugby United New York for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 25-year-old lock joined the team in February after leaving the Houston SaberCats.
Hewitt had limited time to impress for his new club before the season was suspended due to the pandemic. He started two games, against ATL and Houston, which were his first regular season games since 2018 after missing the entirety of the 2019 campaign due to a knee injury.
An England age-grade representative, 2021 could be a big year for Hewitt in terms of international eligibility. He soon qualifies for the USA on residency having arrived in the fall of 2017, and the 6’7″ (2.01m) giant is certain to be of interest to Eagles coach Gary Gold once test rugby resumes.
