Ma’a Nonu returns to Toulon

Ma’a Nonu has officially departed the San Diego Legion. The All Blacks centurion has returned to France, signing on with Toulon until the end of the of the 2020-2021 Top 14 season. It’s his second stint at the club having played there from 2015-2018.

At 38 years old Nonu should be in the twilight of his career but remained in outstanding form for the Legion during his short-lived stay in Major League Rugby. He started four games for San Diego in 2020, scoring three tries including a double in his final outing against NOLA.

The Legion have already signed another big name in former England captain Chris Robshaw though he is not a like-for-like replacement. A new midfielder may not be required if JP du Plessis returns. Already set to continue in 2021 are internationals Dylan Audsley, Ryan Matyas, and Josh Thiel.
