Chile vs Chile as preparation for South American 4 Nations

COVID-19 has brought about changes. These continue tomorrow in Santiago del Chile. In a special warm-up match Los Cóndores will play vs Los Cóndores. The Chile vs Chile match will take place at the Estadio Nacional. Kick-off is scheduled for 4pm.

In addition to preparing for the South American 4 Nations, Chile will begin their RWC 2023 qualifying preparations. Chile is seeking to qualify for a first ever RWC. Despite never having qualified for a RWC, Chile has come close. In 2002 Chile defeated Uruguay and the USA in what were RWC 2003 qualifiers.

Chilean rugby sits on a stronger platform today that in prior RWC cycles. For the first time Chile has a professional rugby team, Selknam. Equally, if not more important, is the High Performance regime. Chile has Higher Performance Centers open in Santiago and Concepción. The capital and southern centers will be joined by one coastal and northern centers.

Chile’s most recent match was last November. Los Cóndores played two matches. They were 35-5 winners over Argentine province San Juan and fell to a 23-18 loss against Portugal.

The Chile vs Chile match will be played behind closed doors. The Estadio Nacional was used for rugby earlier this year. Selknam faced Los Ceibos at the venue in the first professional rugby match on Chilean soil.

The South American 4 Nations will be played in Montevideo. Chile will play against Brazil, Uruguay and the Argentina XV. Match dates are confirmed for Saturday, October 17; Wednesday October 21; and Sunday, October 24.
