Los Pumas Travel to Uruguay

Los Pumas are to travel to Uruguay tomorrow. The home-based players identified by Mario Ledesma will cross the Rio de la Plata to prepare for the Rugby Championship. They are to do so just days after the Argentina XV traveled to Montevideo to prepare for the South American 4 Nations.

The group of players who were training at Casa Jaguares will continue their preparations in Uruguay. With the intention of furthering preparations for the Rugby Championship, the coaching staff and Argentine-based players will join the Argentina XV at the Hampton by Hilton hotel in Carrasco.

Preparations in Buenos Aires have not got smoothly. Players and staff members have tested positive for COVID-19. By way of comparison, Uruguay is placed better against COVID-19. The country was the first in Latin America to resume intercontinental travel. It will be the departure point for Los Pumas who will fly via São Paulo to Australia.

It remains to be seen whether Los Pumas will play a match in Uruguay. The possibility certainly exists. Argentina will play at least two warm-up matches before the Rugby Championship. There are discussions for matches against Australian Super Rugby sides and, possibly, Australia A.
