SaberCats sign Jérémy Lenaerts from Seattle

The Houston SaberCats have announced the signing of lock Jérémy Lenaerts through the 2022 Major League Rugby season. He arrives on a two-year deal from the Seattle Seawolves where he was a significant contributor to their back-to-back MLR Shield-winning campaigns.

In his three seasons with Seattle the 27-year-old played 25 games including the 2019 Championship Final. He missed the 2018 Final with injury. This past season Lenaerts appeared in all five matches for the Seawolves including starts against Toronto and New England.

Originally from Belgium, Lenaerts represented his home country up to u19 level but is now eyeing Eagles selection after qualifying on residency. He earned second-team Collegiate All-American honors in 2017 while playing for Central Washington.

Lenaerts is the second addition to Houston’s second row stocks ahead of 2021 following Fijian import Apisai Tauyavuca. The pair fill the gaps left by the departures of Charlie Hewitt and Victor Comptat. Kyle Breytenbach will return next season with Robert Meeson and Van Stewart yet to be confirmed.
