San Diego taps Eddie Jones for consultancy role

The San Diego Legion have employed one of the world’s leading coaches in a consultancy role for the upcoming season. England’s supremo Eddie Jones will provide advice from afar for newly-appointed coaching duo Scott Murray and Zack Test. The former assistants were promoted to co-lead roles after the departure of Rob Hoadley in May.

It’s not the first such arrangement for Jones. In addition to his primary job for England he is the Director of Rugby for Japan Top League side Suntory Sungoliath. He spends three weeks a year with with the team in person. It’s a relationship that dates back to his first coaching gig with Suntory in 1997.

Jones won’t be the only England influence at the Legion with former national team skipper Chris Robshaw set to move to San Diego upon completion of his commitments with Harlequins. The English Premiership will conclude their delayed 2019-2020 season in mid-October.
