Old Glory signs Scottish tighthead Steven Longwell

Old Glory DC have looked to solve their scrummaging problems with the addition of Scottish tighthead prop Steven Longwell for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 30-year-old arrives from Italy where he has been playing professionally for Verona in the Serie A.

Longwell has been a prominent figure in Scottish domestic rugby for several years and earned selection to the Scotland Club XV from 2017-2019. In 2017 he enjoyed a four-month stint with Eastern Suburbs in the Shute Shield, and in 2019 played for Sale Jets – the reserve grade side of Sale Sharks.

Tipping the scales at a hefty 275lbs (125kg), Longwell is well regarded for his strength in the scrum and is also a powerful ball carrier. He will help alleviate the pressure on DC’s incumbent tighthead duo Gordon Fullerton and Will Vakalahi, both relative youngsters at 22 and 21 respectively.
