Beaudein Waaka commits to Free Jacks through 2022 season

Beaudein Waaka will stay with the New England Free Jacks for another two seasons. The former New Zealand Sevens standout has committed to seeing out his existing contract, announced in August of last year, that runs through the 2022 Major League Rugby campaign.

Injury restricted Waaka to only two games in the truncated 2020 season but he lived up to his billing on the field. A man-of-the-match performance with two tries against Rugby United New York in the first ever MLR game for the expansion team set the tone, and he again impressed in his return against NOLA.

A versatile player who can line up anywhere in the backline, Waaka featured at fullback in 2020 but could find himself at another spot in 2021. Incoming Scotland international Dougie Fife is an option at wing or fullback while the returning Mitch Wilson is similarly adept at multiple positions.
