Free Jacks sign Otago center Aleki Morris-Lome

The New England Free Jacks have signed 26-year-old center Aleki Morris-Lome on a two-year deal through the 2022 Major League Rugby season. He arrives from New Zealand where he has played in the Mitre 10 Cup provincial competition since 2016.

Originally from Dunedin, Morris-Lome played for North Otago in 2015 and made the jump to the senior Southland squad the following year. He spent five months in Spain with Getxo Artea beginning in December 2017 before returning to the Stags.

In 2019 he switched to Otago and started every game that season for the Razorbacks, scoring five tries. Morris-Lome’s strong form earned him a spot in the 2020 Highlanders extended squad. He would play in the preseason but did not make a Super Rugby appearance before the COVID-19 suspension.

Morris-Lome has played the majority of his senior rugby at outside center but can also slot in at No12. He is the second newcomer to New England’s midfield following England age-grade recruit Harry Barlow. While Barlow is US-qualified, Morris-Lome is eligible to represent New Zealand, Samoa, and England.
