Michael de Waal recovered and ready for AG’s in 2021

Austin Gilgronis flanker Michael de Waal is fully recovered from the injury that kept him from making his Major League Rugby debut in 2020. The club has confirmed he will take up the second of his three-year contract signed in September 2019 for the upcoming season.

de Waal, 24, arrived at Austin after winning Collegiate All-American honors with the Lindenwood Lions. He was accompanied by Lions teammate and fellow South African back row Wesley White, but complications with his international eligibility led to White departing the team early in the preseason to instead pursue a professional career in England.

There are no such problems for de Waal, who is now qualified to play for the USA on residency. At 6’3″ (1.90m) he is the tallest of the four flankers signed on for Austin next year, the other three being Dominic Akina, Moe Abdelmonem, and Dom Bailey.
