Austin re-sign Kurt Morath for 2021 season

Kurt Morath has re-signed with the Austin Gilgronis for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. Tonga’s all-time leading scorer with 340 points in 38 tests, the New Zealand-born flyhalf gives the AG’s two sets of international halfbacks along with Will Magie and scrumhalves Pele Cowley and Marcelo Torrealba.

Morath arrived alongside Magie and Cowley ahead of the Week 5 fixture against the Houston SaberCats. He captained the side on debut but was forced off early in the second half with injury and would not get a chance to play a second game as the season was suspended the following week.

Now approaching his 36th birthday, Morath is in the twilight of his professional career but remains a steady operator in the No10 jersey and an excellent kicker from hand and off the tee. This is his third stint in the USA, having lined up for the San Diego Breakers in 2016 and Utah Warriors in 2018.
