Frank Halai returning for Austin in 2021

Frank Halai will return to Austin for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The Tongan-born powerhouse enters the second season of his contract signed in September 2019 and joins fellow All Blacks international Jamie Mackintosh on the confirmed list for the Gilgronis.

Having been used primarily as a winger both in XVs and on the World Sevens Series, Halai stepped in at outside center for the AG’s up arriving in Week 3. He made an instant impression, scoring a try on debut as a replacement against Utah and again as a starter against DC a week later.

It remains to be seen where Halai lines up in 2021. The 32-year-old joins international halfbacks Pele Cowley, Marcelo Torrealba, and Will Magie in returning along with speedy winger Rodrick Waters and team captain Zinzan Elan-Puttick. USA center Bryce Campbell is also set to arrive from London Irish.
