Bui Baravilala retires from international rugby

Women’s Eagles veteran Bui Baravilala is stepping away from the spotlight at the age of 29 after a decade of representing the USA on the international stage. The Honolulu native first suited up for the national u20 side in 2010 and would go on to achieve senior honors in both 7s and XVs.

Baravilala was one of the first group of players to be contracted full-time at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista. She made her World Sevens Series debut in 2012, captaining the team at two tournaments, and was part of the USA side that finished in 5th place at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

A versatile backfielder of Fijian ancestry, Baravilala was also a standout on the XVs pitch. She had the unique honor of making her test debut at the 2014 World Cup against Wales and would play all four games at the tournament. Baravilala retires after playing in 11 tests and 10 Sevens Series events.
