Marcelo Torrealba re-signs with Austin

Marcelo Torrealba has signed a new contract with the Austin Gilgronis that will see the Chilean scrumhalf staying in Texas through the 2021 Major League Rugby season. In doing so the 24-year-old again turns down the South American Súper Liga in favor of the North American competition.

Since arriving from his home club of Old Boys in Santiago, Torrealba has been a staple in Austin’s match day lineup. This past season he started the first four matches of the season, scoring a team-leading 28 points. The only match he didn’t feature in was Samoa international Pele Cowley’s MLR debut.

Austin have now confirmed 10 returning players for 2021. Previously announced were props Jamie Mackintosh, LaRome White, and Mason Pedersen; flankers Dom Bailey, Dominic Akina, and Moe Abdelmonem; flyhalf Will Magie, wing Rodrick Waters, and fullback Zinzan Elan-Puttick.
