Javier Ortega Desio tests positive for COVID-19

Javier Ortega Desio has tested positive for COVID-19, the UAR has confirmed. The 30-year-old back-rower was named in Mario Ledesma’s training roster for the Rugby Championship.

46 Argentine-based players were selected for the Rugby Championship training regime. They have completed two weeks of training in Buenos Aires.

In regards to the strict distancing norms imposed by the Argentine government, Los Pumas will start their third week of training. It will involve testing for all of the roster as of tomorrow (Monday) morning.

The veteran of 57 test matches, Javier Ortega Desio, will not be involved in the training. Instead, he will remain in mandatory isolation. He is yet to join the training regime at Casa Jaguares.

The 2020 Rugby Championship will be played in November and December in New Zealand. Ortega Desio’s place in the competition is now in serious doubt.
