Rugby ATL signs Jonas Petrakopoulos from RUNY

Rugby ATL have snapped up free agent Jonas Petrakopoulos from Rugby United New York. A month shy of his 22nd birthday, the versatile front rower has signed a two-year deal that ties him to the ‘Snake Pit’ through the 2022 Major League Rugby season.

Petrakopoulos was a late addition to RUNY’s roster in 2020, arriving from a stint in New Zealand with Greerton Marist. He made a positive impression as a replacement at loosehead prop in the season opener against the Free Jacks and earned a start at tighthead against Austin, but would make no further appearances before the season was suspended.

A High School All-American, Petrakopoulos has also represented the Netherlands – where he was born – up to u20 level. He now has his sights on the Eagles and should understudy current USA loosehead Chance Wenglewski at ATL, effectively replacing the recently retired Jamie Ferrante.
