Benetton have announced the recruitment of Argentine prop Ivan Nemer. The loose head prop joins the Italian side for the 2020-2021 Pro 14 season on a contract which will run until June 30, 2021.
Nemer spent there years playing age grade rugby for his country. He was an Argentine u18’s and u20’s player. He joins Benetton Treviso as injury cover for Derrick Appiah, Matteo Drudi and Federico Zani. The trio are all sidelined with longterm injuries.
The 22-year-old Nemer is from Mar del Plata in Buenos Aires province. A product of Bigua Rugby Club, he has played rugby since the age of four. He also played for IPR Sporting, from whom he went on to be selected for Argentina at the junior levels.
As part of an arrangement between Casale Rugby and Benetton Rugby, Nemer arrived in Italy in January. This enabled him to train with both teams and compete in Italy’s Serie A competition. He did so prior to the suspension of the 2019-2020 season due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Nemer is the fourth Argentine player officially on the Benetton roster for the upcoming season. He joins hooker Tomás Baravalle, and centers Ignacio Brex and Joaquín Riera. Like Nemer, all three have represented Argentina in the past. Brex has since played Sevens for Italy, thereby making him now captured by Italy.
