Rugby United New York re-signs Rob Irimescu

Rugby United New York have extended versatile forward Rob Irimescu through the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The 24-year-old is the 11th returning player confirmed by the club, and third announcement this week following new prop Zak Taulafo and fullback Ben Foden.

Irimescu won Collegiate All-American honors as a hooker with Penn State where he also played as a loose forward. Despite being initially signed by RUNY as a front row, injuries and visa delays meant that all four of his replacement appearances in MLR were in the back row.

With some of those visa problems now resolved Irimescu should see time at hooker in 2021. He is a New York native and product of the renowned Xavier High program. Irimescu also qualifies for Romania through his father who was himself a standout rugby player.
