Austin re-signs Jamie Mackintosh for 2021 season

The Austin Gilgronis have confirmed the re-signing of Jamie Mackintosh for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. As expected the 35-year-old New Zealand international will return as a player-coach, joining a new-looking coaching staff that includes Australian duo Sam Harris and Mark Gerrard.

Mackintosh, nicknamed ‘Whoppa’, signed on for a second stint in the USA and his first in MLR earlier this year. He started three games for the AG’s in the No1 jersey including an 80-minute effort against Houston to claim the Texas Cup. In 2016 Mackintosh played for the Ohio Aviators of PRO Rugby.

Austin now have four front rowers on their books for 2021. Returning props LaRome White and Mason Pedersen are joined by hooker Mason Koch, Austin’s second pick in the Collegiate Draft. The departures list includes Skyler Adams, Chris Schade, Tiaan Erasmus, Wilton Rebolo, and Juan Echeverría.
