Austin re-signs Canadian flanker Moe Abdelmonem

Moe Abdelmonem has re-signed with the Austin Gilgronis for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. The soon-to-be 28-year-old has been a staple in the No7 shirt for the team since arriving from Canada part-way through the 2019 season.

Originally from Egypt, Abdelmonem emigrated to Halifax in 2009 and was in consideration for a test debut with Canada in the cancelled Americas Rugby Championship. He has quickly established himself as one of MLR’s premier breakdown operators and formed a high-tempo AGs back row trio in 2020 alongside newcomers Dominic Akina and Lino Saunitoga.

Austin have already confirmed an extension for Akina while fellow flanker Dom Bailey is set to return for the club in 2021 after missing out on this year’s limited schedule due to injury. Eagles flyhalf Will Magie signed a new two-year deal with the team earlier this week.
