Getxo sign Mariano Filomeno

Spanish side Gexto Rugby have signed Mariano Filomeno. The move marks a return to Spain for the former Argentina XV tight head prop. It also sees the promoted Gexto building their player roster as they prepare for the upcoming Division de Honor season.

The 29-year-old has prior professional experience with Kuban in Krasnodar. He spent two years with the Southern Russian club before returning home to CAR in Avellaneda. Kuban contributed Tagir Gadzhiev, Roman Khodin and Vladimir Ostroushko to Russia’s roster for RWC 2019.

Gexto is Filomeno’s second Spanish club. He previously played for CRAT Residencia Rialta in A Coruña. He made 34 league appearances during his two seasons with the club. He did so for a return of seven tries.

Filomeno is a notable ball-carrier and excels in the scrum. He is 1.82m tall and weighs 130kg.
