Tiaan Erasmus moving from Austin to Houston

Tiaan Erasmus will make the move from Austin to Houston for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. First reported by Rugby Index, the 24-year-old hooker confirmed a two-year deal with the SaberCats on social media. He announced his departure from Austin earlier this month.

Erasmus arrived in Texas from South Africa ahead of the 2019 season. He featured in all but one match for Austin in 2019, and began 2020 in sparkling form for the Gilgronis with four tries in five games including two scores against Houston that helped end Austin’s 22-game winless streak.

Houston are yet to announce the move but have confirmed the addition of Canadian prop Nik Hildebrand. The team has also been linked with Lindenwood Belleville front rower Hunter Blanchard, reportedly signing as an undrafted free agent.
