Rugby United New York have confirmed their first contract extension of the Major League Rugby off-season. US Eagles lock Nate Brakeley has signed on through 2021. The 30-year-old has been with the club since their exhibition run in 2018.
Brakeley enjoyed his first Rugby World Cup experience in 2019, starting against France and Argentina. Since making his test debut in 2016 he has collected 23 test caps with a lone international try scored against Canada in the World Qup Qualifier at Torero Stadium in 2017.
After filling in on the blindside flank in the 2020 season opener against New England, Brakeley reverted to his more accustomed second row spot. He played every minute of RUNY’s five games and was widely regarded as one of the top forwards in MLR during the pandemic-shortened campaign.
