Austin re-signs flanker Dominic Akina

The Austin Gilgronis have re-signed Dominic Akina for the 2021 Major League Rugby season. A collegiate football player, the 26-year-old Hawaiian turned heads in his first campaign as a professional.

Having previously played as an outside center for Western Oregon, Akina made the switch to flanker in the preseason and was an instant hit with his exceptional speed and strength in the contact area. He started all five games in the shortened season, playing every possible minute for the AGs in 2020.

Akina is the second flanker confirmed by Austin for 2021 following Dom Bailey. Canadian openside Moe Abdelmonem is also expected to stay with the Gilgronis along with Lindenwood graduate Michael de Waal, who missed the 2020 campaign due to injury.
