Jerónimo de la Fuente leaves Jaguares for Perpignan

Perpignan (USAP) have signed Jerónimo de la Fuente on a three-year-deal. The Jaguares captain went straight from u20s through the domestic system in 2010. A decade later he departs Argentina for the Pro D2 club.

The 29-year-old, who has 54 caps for Argentina, is under contract with the UAR until December 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic he, like other players, has the liberty to negotiate with other clubs and will be free to obtain immediate release. This has recently seen Marcos Kremer signing for Stade Français and Guido Petti for Bordeaux.

de la Fuente took over the Jaguares captaincy from Pablo Matera in 2019. Matera departed Jaguares for Stade Français, debuting for the Top 14 side following RWC 2019.

Whether or not additional names will depart Argentina remains to be seen. A player exodus is, nonetheless expected. Americas Rugby News can confirm that there more Jaguares’ have had talks with clubs from France and England.

Before the season was suspended due to COVID-19 Perpignan was second place in France’s second division. The club won the 2018 Pro D2 to earn promotion to the Top 14. It now targets a repeat for the 2020-2021 season.
