Mason Pedersen has re-signed with the Austin Gilgronis. The 23-year-old tighthead prop follows fullback Zinzan Elan-Puttick, both of whom have been with the Austin franchise since their inaugural campaign in 2018. No contract length was specified in the release.
Pedersen was part of the Junior All-American side that traveled to Zimbabwe for the 2016 World Rugby u20 Trophy. He then toured with the Collegiate All-Americans to Australia, and was rewarded with a spot in the USA Selects for the 2016 Americas Pacific Challenge.
After having his 2019 season interrupted by injury, Pedersen played all five matches for the AG’s in 2020 and pushed ahead of Uruguayan international Juan Echeverría for the starting No3 spot. His thunderous tackle on Mathieu Bastareaud in Week Two was one of several such hits that made highlight reels.
