Tyler Ardron will not get a chance to play in Super Rugby Aotearoa. The Chiefs have confirmed that the Canadian star will depart the team this coming week to join up with his new club in France. A hamstring injury kept him out of the first three games of the makeshift competition.
Also leaving the Chiefs is Samoan midfielder Tumua Manu. Ardron will join Castres with Manu heading for Top 14 rivals Pau. Both players began their Super Rugby stays in 2018, with Manu joining the Chiefs after one season with the Blues.
In three seasons with the Hamilton-based side Ardron played 31 games, all but one starts, and scored 5 tries. He also featured 15 times for Bay of Plenty in the Mitre 10 Cup, captaining the side in 2018.
Ardron thanked former Canada coach Neil Barnes for facilitating his move to New Zealand.
“I’ve loved my time here in New Zealand with the Gallagher Chiefs and Bay of Plenty Steamers. The supporters and fans of the Gallagher Chiefs and Chiefs region are incredible. I have really enjoyed the opportunity to explore New Zealand and meet a number of great people along the way.
“I am exceptionally thankful to the Gallagher Chiefs coaching staff, especially Barnsey for taking the chance on me and bringing me over. I am also grateful to the team in the Bay of Plenty. Clayton and the team over the hill have been fantastic as well and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with both teams.”
