Tendai Mtawarira has yet to clarify his future in Major League Rugby, but a recent announcement suggests his playing career may now be at an end. ‘The Beast’ has been appointed CEO of Umlindi Security, a new company under the umbrella of Fidelity Security Group.

Fidelity is one of the largest security firms in Africa, staffing over 36,000 in 82 branches across the southern areas of the continent. For the last 9 years Mtawarira has been employed as a brand ambassador for the company.
To help prepare him for his new move into business, Mtawarira has enrolled in an MBA program through the Henley Business School. Fidelity CEO Wahl Bartmann says that in addition to running Umlindi he will also remain active with its parent company.
A press release from HWB Communications included these words from Mtawarira:
“Being a businessman has excited me for a long time because it combines many of the core values I needed in my rugby career like teamwork, innovation, commitment, continuous self-improvement and having fun.
“I am excited to start this new adventure and look forward to growing Umlindi into a prominent player in the security and related services industry, and look forward to more involvement with the Fidelity Services Group.”
The 34-year-old made headlines in December after signing for Old Glory just weeks after winning the 2019 Rugby World Cup with South Africa. Injury restricted him to just two games for DC before the 2020 MLR season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
