Guido Petti is leaving Los Jaguares to join Bordeaux Bègles for the 2020-21 Top 14 season. Multiple sources indicate that the 25-year-old second row will soon be confirmed to have signed a two-year contract, his first as a professional outside Argentina.
The consensus choice as the best of Los Pumas at Rugby World Cup 2019, Petti is one of many who should depart Buenos Aires for Europe following the premature cancellation of the Super Rugby season due to COVID-19. Los Jaguares have effectively been disbanded with the team to be left out of any revised 2021 format and the brand’s future uncertain.
Jaguares coach Gonzalo Quesada has already returned to Paris. Julián Montoya is tipped for a move to the English Premiership with Marcos Kremer and Emiliano Boffelli almost certainly France-bound. Matías Alemanno and Jerónimo de la Fuente are among others likely headed abroad.
Petti had been linked to Stade Français but in choosing Bordeaux it’s another Pumas lock, Tomás Lavanini, who is now in the sights of Quesada according to Midi Olympique. Such a move, however, would require a complicated early release from his current contract with Leicester.
