Iona College scrumhalf Connor Buckley joins RUNY

Iona College star Connor Buckley has signed for Rugby United New York. The 2019 Major League Rugby Semi Finalists have wasted no time in snapping up the talented scrumhalf after he was passed over in Major League Rugby’s inaugural Collegiate Draft.

A native of Rockaway Beach, New York, Buckley came under the tutelage of former Eagles and RUNY captain Mike Petri while playing for Xavier High School. He was a High School All-American in 2017, a member of the USA u20 squad in 2018, and a Finalist for the Rudy Scholz Award in 2020.

Buckley, 21, is the first new signing of the off-season for New York. The team did not participate in the Draft, instead sending their first and second round picks to Dallas along with extra salary cap space in exchange for an extra foreign player slot.
