Louisiana State University captain Jack Webster has signed for the NOLA Gold. Originally from Lakewood, Washington, he moved to Louisiana as a teenager. The 22-year-old midfielder is the first undrafted free agent to put pen to paper following Saturday’s inaugural MLR Collegiate Entry Draft.
Webster notably only took up rugby in 2017 having played football and baseball for Alexandria Senior High School. A strong runner with a powerful 6’2″ (1.88m) frame, he was primarily a center for the Tigers but also featured at flyhalf and fullback on occasion.
NOLA have been busy in the off-season, signing utility back Cian Barry and extending the contracts of rising stars Matt Harmon and Moni Tonga’uiha. Their two first round draft picks were Central Washington prop Brian Nault and Notre Dame College flanker Andrew Guerra.
