Moni Tonga’uiha signs NOLA contract extension

Moni Tonga’uiha has signed a two-year contract extension with the NOLA Gold. With one year remaining on his current agreement, the extension secures the 25-year-old’s stay in New Orleans until at least the end of the 2023 Major League Rugby season.

Initially joining the team from Life West in 2018, Tonga’uiha split his time between the midfield and flanker during the inaugural season. He made a permanent shift to the forwards in 2019 and the change has proved a success. After being a reserve player last season he started all five games for NOLA in 2020.

Tonga’uiha’s dynamic performances have caught the eye of Eagles selectors and a strong 2021 campaign could see him earn international honors. While learning his trade on the blindside, he wore the No7 shirt three times this season and at 6’2″ (1.88m) could play either position moving forward.

NOLA already have the bulk of their first choice side in place for 2021. Among those contracted on long-term deals are Canadian pair Eric Howard and Kyle Baillie, US Eagles star Cam Dolan, Argentine winger Julián Domínguez, and Australian trio Scott Gale, Robbie Coleman, and Con Foley.
