Jessica Wooden signs for Sale Sharks

USA international Jessica Wooden has signed with Sale Sharks for the 2020-2021 Premiers 15s season. The 31-year-old fullback has won 13 caps for the Women’s Eagles since her test debut in 2016 and was part of the 2017 World Cup squad that finished 4th overall.

Originally from Snellville, Georgia, Wooden holds the unique distinction of being the first USA player to represent the Women’s Barbarians. She lined up for the famous invitational club against the British Army in March 2018, scoring a try in the first half.

This is the third English club that Wooden has been part of. She previously ran out for Harlequins and most recently Richmond. The latter is no longer in the elite semi-professional division, having missed out on a place in the Premier 15s for the next three seasons.

Wooden is the second North American player to be snapped up in recent days. Canadian winger Paige Farries signed for Worcester last week.
