US Eagles prop Eric Fry has bid adieu to RC Vannes after four seasons with the Pro D2 club. In speaking to Ouest-France, the 32-year-old concedes that injuries have taken their toll on his body and retirement is an option though he hopes to be fit enough for one last season in Major League Rugby.
After spending the 2012 season with Manawatu in New Zealand, Fry moved to Europe signing an 18-month deal with London Scottish in the RFU Championship. He made the jump to Newcastle Falcons and the Premiership in 2014 before a brief stint with the Sacramento Express in PRO Rugby.
St. Nazaire came calling in the fall of 2016 but Fry would not last long in Fédérale 1. He was snapped up by Vannes in October of that year and has been a regular in the No1 jersey since. A series of injuries limited his playing time over the past two seasons, most notably a herniated disc and a torn ACL.
Having overcome knee surgery to appear in his third World Cup last year, it now appears that Fry’s international career has come to a close. With 48 caps since his debut in 2011 he trails only Mike MacDonald in USA test appearance by a prop forward.
