Memorable Americas Tries – Samu Manoa vs Uruguay 2014

Samu Manoa scored a try from over 50 meters out again Uruguay in 2014. The match was the first of two RWC 2015 qualifiers between the Eagles and Teros. The Californian’s try saw him running more than half the length of the field at Montevideo’s Estadio Charrúa.

The match itself was completed with the teams tied at 27-27 after 80 minutes. Manoa’s try came at a time when Uruguay held a 22-13 second-half lead. The Eagles went ahead late in the match before a score by Agustín Ormachea completed the draw on full-time.

The draw set-up a winner-takes-all game two in Atlanta. The match was an competitive affair and saw the USA again seeing themselves trailing. A spirited second-half showing, though, saw the Eagles to a 32-13 win and with it they qualified as Americas 2 for RWC 2015. Uruguay would later qualify via repechage.
