Rugby United New York are looking to sign legendary New Zealand fly half Dan Carter, reports Rugby Pass. The RWC 2011 and 2015 winner departed Japanese side Kobelco Steelers last week and is now a free agent.
The 38-year-old could now join his opponent from the RWC 2015 final, Drew Mitchell at RUNY. Such a move would be a fourth country for the former All Blacks no 10. He was a Super Rugby champion with the Crusaders in 2005 2006 and 2008. His first foreign experience was ended short by injury, yet his club, Perpignan were the French Top 14 champions.
Carter won 112 caps for New Zealand. He is considered by many to be the greatest fly half in rugby history. Carter won 99 of the 112 test matches that he played in, scoring 1,598 points. This makes him the record point scorer in test match rugby. The next best is England’s Jonny Wilkinson who scored 1246 points.
