The inaugural under-20 Americas Rugby Championship has been postponed. Set to be hosted by Uruguay in June, the age grade edition of the established Americas competition was also to act as a qualifier for the World Rugby u20 Trophy for Canada and the USA. A target date has not been set due to the uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
It’s an expected decision following World Rugby’s cancellation of the u20 Championship. The fate of September’s World Rugby u20 Trophy to be hosted in Spain is unclear, while the senior July test window in its entirety is in doubt with France and Italy set to cancel their tours.
In a formal statement, Rugby Americas has confirmed that both the senior Americas Rugby Championship and Americas Rugby Challenge will be considered in the coming weeks. Both tournaments are set to begin in August. The statement in its entirety can be read below.
