Barbarians match in San Diego postponed

USA Rugby has confirmed the postponement of the Barbarians vs the Women’s Eagles match in San Diego. The rematch of last year’s thrilling contest in Glendale had been slated to be part of a double-header in conjunction with Major League Rugby on May 3. It’s hoped the match will be able to be played later in the year.

It’s the latest in a string of cancellations that has hit the sport due to the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). The event had been announced just over a week ago, a stark reflection of the speed and severity of the global pandemic.

The MLR game between the San Diego Legion and Austin Gilgronis that day remains tentatively scheduled but looks increasingly likely to suffer the same fate. As the ticket applied for both matches, an exchange program will be confirmed by the Legion in due course.
