Robert Paylor takes first steps on Witter Field since injury

Robert Paylor has taken his first steps on Witter Field, nearly three years after suffering a catastrophic neck injury that left him paralyzed from the chest down. It’s a landmark event for the former Cal Golden Bears lock. The recovery has been slow but Paylor continues to make progress and inspire.

In January 2018 he took his first steps using only a walker for assistance. In May of that year, roughly one year after the incident, Paylor returned to Witter Field for homecoming albeit confined to his wheelchair. Late last month Paylor was able to stand up in his walker on his own for the first time.
