SLAR Indefinitely Suspended

The Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR) has been indefinitely suspended. It is the final blow for professional rugby in the Americas. It follows the suspension of both Major League Rugby and Super Rugby.

SLAR confirmed the decision following the completion of today’s match between Selknam and Los Ceibos in Santiago, Chile. It was one of two second round matches. The other fixture was the Olímpia Lions vs Corinthians in Asunción which was cancelled.

The decision from SLAR comes following recommendations from governments from there five countries who are feeding teams in the regular season. It sees precautions taken due to the perceived dangers of the coronavirus which has caused two deaths thus far in Argentina.

There is no official return date for the inaugural SLAR season. This means that it is now a waiting game to see how the situation in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay changes. Rugby will not resume until it is deemed 100% safe for players, staff and spectators.
