Olímpia Lions vs Corinthians to be played behind closed doors

Friday’s SLAR match between the Olímpia Lions and Corinthians is to be played behind close doors. The decision to take precautions comes following the confirmation of coronavirus in Paraguay. It has seen schools suspended for fifteen days.

The decision means that the historic first ever professional rugby match in Paraguay will not have a crowd. The match against Brazil’s first professional rugby team, Corinthians will be played at the large Para Uno, but without spectators.

SLAR confirmed the cancellation noting that:

“The Súperliga Americana de Rugby is carefully following the development of the coronavirus and will respect government decisions in everyone of the countries that participates in the SLAR, always prioritizing the wellbeing and safety of players, technical staff and spectators.”

The match will be streamed live on SLAR TV, the league’s Youtube channel. Kick-off is scheduled for 9pm in Asunción.
